Magicband+ Bounty Hunter Game – Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios

Magicband+ Bounty Hunter Game – Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios

One of the BIGGEST questions I receive from clients wanting to take their family to Walt Disney World is, “Are my teens too old for Disney?” As a Mom of two teenage boys myself, I would say, “No, but the trip isn’t going to look like it did when they were little. It can be SO much more fun! They enjoy roller coasters and my oldest LOVES Animal Kingdom”

The Rogers family, who have a teenage son and a pre-teen son, just returned home from an 8-day Walt Disney World vacation. They had a great vacation and their sons had so much fun playing the new Bounty Hunter game in Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney World’s new Magicband+ has the functionality of the previous version Magicband (unlock your resort room door, park tickets, make purchases, etc), as well as it lights up during nighttime firework shows and makes the 50th Anniversary statues talk. But, the BEST feature of the new bands is the Bounty Hunter game in Hollywood Studios’ Galaxy’s Edge. Max, The Rogers’ 14 year old son, sent me the following game description and review.

This is where the bounty hunter wall is located. You start the experience at the screen on the left by scanning your Magicband+. This is where you go to get each new bounty. The large door on the right is where you turn in your bounty (scan your Magicband+) and receive your credits

Face comes up and talks, and you receive your credits

There are square control panels all over Galaxy’s Edge, usually by doors. You scan your Magicband+ at these to see if your bounty is in there. Your Magicband+ is red when you are far away from your bounty and flashes green when you are getting closer to them. When you find the correct door panel, your Magicband+ turns purple.

Max’s Review:

“For the bounty hunter wall, I find it very interesting because you have to get 20 bounties. If you can get the hang of finding the right way around right after taking the bounty, it’s pretty easy to find where it is. There aren’t a lot of places where it juts off, so it makes it easier to navigate.

One thing that I really like about the bounty hunter wall is that it doesn’t always stay the same. It randomizes the bounties where you and another person are not hunting for the same bounty person. Something I found difficult is that there are a ton of the panels, but it makes it fun to search around and find the right one.

The thing I dislike about the bounty hunter wall is that it resets everyday (we did not sync it to the Play Disney app) so it makes it more of a one and done deal. It does take a decent amount of time to complete. For me personally it took around 2 hours to finish all 20 bounties, but overall it’s pretty fun to run around and find the right door.”

5 things you should pack for your Disney Cruise

5 things you should pack for your Disney Cruise

Cuising with Disney is a different animal than taking a trip to the parks. Here are 5 things you might not think to pack for your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

        1. Battery-Operated Lights – If you’ve never been on a cruise, you might not know that the cabins can be pitch black without the lights on, especially if you are in an inside cabin. You can pack a couple of the battery-powered press-on lights to keep in your bathroom, so if someone has to get up in the middle of the night to go, they can easily find it, without turning on all of the lights and waking the entire cabin.
        2. USB Splitter – Power strips are not allowed on cruise ships. They can overload the circuit and possibly cause a fire, so they are banned. There are plugs in your room but there might not be enough for all of the electronics we have these days. You can bring a USB splitter that turns one USB plug into 2, 3 or 4 more USB outlets. This is a great way to get your phones charged all at once.
        3. Suction Cup Toothbrush Holder– This one sounds weird, I know. Cruise cabin bathrooms aren’t the largest spaces, and they really don’t have a ton of counter space. By bringing a toothbrush holder that suctions your bathroom mirror, you can save a bunch of counter space and keep everything tidier.
        4. Laundry Pods – This might not be something you bring traveling with you normally, but it could come in handy on a cruise. The cruise ships all have laundry facilities and do sell detergent, but it does add an extra cost. If you bring your own pods, they are easy to pack and throw in with the wash. If you find yourself out of clean clothes on a cruise, doing laundry is just about your only option since there aren’t many places to shop while at sea.
        5. Cups – Yep, you read that right. Disney Cruise Line offers free soft drinks on the pool decks all day and night. But, the cups they have to fill are small. To avoid having to leave your perfect spot next to the pool, bring a large cup with a lid on it, bonus points if it is insulated to keep the ice longer! You won’t be able to fill these cups up directly from the fountain, you will have to use the clean paper cups Disney provides to fill yours, but this will keep your drinks full and cold much longer!

Know Before You Go: Questions To Ask When Ordering Your Allergen-Safe Meal on Vacation

Know Before You Go: Questions To Ask When Ordering Your Allergen-Safe Meal on Vacation

When you have food allergies and you’re having people cook for you, making sure you ask some additional questions is always important to help keep you safe.

Here are 3 questions to ask when ordering with celiac disease, food allergies, or food intolerances:

  • Is there any information about cross-contact at the factory it was made in?  Here is where you need to know your comfort level with shared lines and facilities.  The chef or manager will let you know what the labels say about how the food is made.
  • Where will it be cooked in the kitchen?  Will there be any of the ingredients you avoid on a shared surface or oil?  If they don’t have an allergy-safe fryer available, can they bake it for you?  If there are any ingredients you avoid on the cooking surface, can they pan-fry the food instead?
  • Are any sauces, broth, or marinades in the food and if so, what are those ingredients?  For my garlic allergy, chefs often have to find a plain protein for me and then can season it appropriately.  With sauces, ingredients like dairy and gluten can sneak in, so always double-check them!

Chefs are a great resource and are there to help you.  They want to keep you safe and more important, comfortable when eating out, so don’t be afraid to ask for certain accommodations if it will help you feel more comfortable.

When ordering a safe meal on vacation, make sure to pack your patience.  Chefs definitely do their best to make your food quickly but it does take time when you have to make meals that are not already on the menu.  I have had some meals that are done in under 10 minutes, and some take 30 minutes or more.  For our family, we generally ask that all our quick-service food is brought out at the same time.  If you have a little one that can’t wait that long and they are not the one with the allergy, talk to the quick-serve location or your server to see if they can get their meal quickly!  If you are staying at the resort you want to eat at, talk to the chefs ahead of time and they may be able to have something waiting at a certain time so you don’t have to wait long for your food!

A List of Uncommon Travel Tips

A List of Uncommon Travel Tips

These travel tips are surely uncommon but they can benefit you in many ways!

Baby wipes are the perfect travel refresher and not as having a drink. Baby wipes are perfect if you have been traveling all day and just need to wipe your face, and surfaces around you and could even aid in a mini shower. This is definitely a great way to freshen up.

Set a daily goal to help ensure you are able to relax easier while on vacation. Setting goals will help you feel more accomplished and happier because you have completed a task. Perhaps this goal is not something on your itinerary or plans. This way it will feel new and exciting.

Do not pick the middle seat on an airplane when traveling with others. Choose an empty row of seats and have one person pick the aisle seat and the other should sit near the window. People are less likely to want to sit in the middle of two people. This way you will have a better chance of scoring the whole row to yourselves. If someone does need to sit in your row simply just move over.

Ever forget your precious belongings in the hotel room safe? This tip will help decrease the chances of this happening. You can tie a bright-colored string to the handle of the safe. You can also tie the other end to a suitcase below.  Sometimes I write a note and stick it to the room door. I may have forgotten a thing or two in the past.

Traveling to a different time zone? A perfect way to prepare for this is to set all your clocks to the time zone of where you will be traveling as soon as you get on the plane!

I would love to hear what your uncommon travel tips are!

How to eat at Walt Disney World for less than a day

How to eat at Walt Disney World for less than $50 a day

It’s not news to anyone that food is expensive. It is especially true on vacation. This is how my husband and I can eat on less than  $50 a day at Walt Disney World!

We very rarely visit sit down restaurants while at Disney World, we are usually much too busy. Just cutting these experiences down will save you a ton of money without the Disney Dining Plan. (No word on when this will return). The dining plan is back! Want to make the most of your credits?

The next important point is that a lot of time we share food. We really like to try a lot of different items, and this is the way we can without getting so full we are unhappy.

For breakfast food, we like to get to the parks early and hit something quick. Here are our go-tos at each park for breakfast

Hollywood Studios – Ronto Morning Wrap ($12.50) at Ronto Roasters in Galaxy’s Edge.

Magic Kingdom – Gaston’s Tavern for a giant Cinnamon Roll ($6.79)

Epcot- Béchamel, Cheese & Ham Galette crêpe ($10.95) at Crêpes À Emporter at La Crêperie de Paris,

Animal Kingdom – Breakfast Bowl ($12.99) at Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes

No trip to Disney World would be complete without ALL the snacks and we love to try all of the fun food that is offered. Some of our favorite snacks to grab are a Mickey Soft Pretzel ($7.19) found throughout all of the parks, Cheeseburger Spring Rolls at Magic Kingdom ($9.50 for 2), School Bread ($4.25) in Norway at Epcot and Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned ($5.99) Fries in Animal Kingdom

You can also order a kids meal, even if you are an adult, at a quick service location. Not only is this a great way to save money, but it also saves room in your stomach for more snacks! Most kids meals at Disney quick service locations are around $8.00, perfect for getting something a little more substantial, but not getting too stuffed!

By sharing snacks and meals, you can really maximize your budget while still trying all of the wonderful food Walt Disney World has to offer.
