Did you know that Disney owns a piece of paradise in the Bahamas? Castaway Cay is the highlight of any Disney cruise. Here, you have Disney Cast Members and their magical service to help you enjoy all this beautiful island has to offer. There is something for everyone, from those who want to relax to those who want to explore.
Children have a variety of activities to keep them entertained. The family beach has most of the fun activities that are included in your cruise. Here, you will find Pelican Plunge: a water-play area with two water slides, as well as a wooden play structure to explore. There is also a swimming area at the family beach which has plenty of life jackets available to keep the little ones safe. Floats and tubes are available for rent on the island. Children ages 3 to 12 can enjoy some time at Scuttle’s Cove, a drop-in center run by Disney so parents can relax and explore the island on their own. No reservations are needed but there is a limit to how many children can be accommodated at a time. Behind the family beach between the two restaurants available for families are some other fun options. In-Da-Shade is a great place to get out of the sun and play some games, and the Teen Hideout provides children ages 14-17 a space to hang out with friends their own age in paradise.
Adults who are on their own will enjoy their own side of the island, only a tram ride away from the family beach. Serenity Bay is the perfect adults-only oasis reserved exclusively for adults 18 years of age and over. There, you can unwind with an open-air cabana massage under the swaying palm trees or frozen specialty drinks at the Castaway Air Bar. Air Bar BBQ has hearty fare and savory dishes to satisfy your appetite when hunger strikes. Rentals are available for bikes, floats, and tubes.
If you’re looking to stay active, there is a wide variety of activities available. While the 5K group race on Disney Castaway Cay has been temporarily suspended, guests may run the race on their own (no registration required) while practicing physical distancing. All participants who complete the 5K run will receive a finishing medallion. Information on where and when Guests can pick up their medals will be made available via the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. The sports beach with volleyball and tetherball is located next to the bike rental shop. Explore the whole island with a bike rental on the nature trails. Along the trails, you’ll find the observation tower, offering an eagle-eye view of the island and many other landmarks you won’t see from the beach.
Port Adventures are a great way to explore while on Castaway Cay. We experienced a few of the options during our visit. Our favorite Port Adventure was the Extreme Getaway Package which included Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure, snorkel rental, float or tube rental, and one hour of bicycle rental. We fed the stingrays and snorkeled with them. When that was done, we received snorkeling gear for the day that we used in the snorkeling lagoon where we found some hidden treasures. Glass Bottom Boat Scenic Voyage was our second Port Adventure. It was fun feeding the fish and seeing them swim beneath the boat, but I enjoyed interacting with the stingrays more. There is a wide variety of Port Adventures available on each cruise so make sure to check out your options!
If you want to splurge while at Castaway Cay, rent a cabana for your own personal space and shade. For the Family Beach Cabanas, the cost includes 6 guests but can hold up to 10 guests. For the Grand Family Cabana, the cost includes 6 guests but can hold up to 16 guests. The price for a daily cabana rental varies based on the season, but each additional guest is $56. Each cabana is furnished with comfortable seating, a beverage refrigerator, a safe, towels, and sunscreen. Outside on the patio are luxurious chaise lounge chairs, a freshwater shower, hammock, and sailcloth shade. Fresh fruit and snacks (granola bars and chips) are included and dedicated beverage service is provided, though bottled water is included with the cost. Each cabana also includes the use of snorkeling equipment, float or tube rental, sand toys, and one hour of bike rental. Pack n Plays are available on Castaway Cay for Cabana Guests with an infant in the party.
