Just last month I made my first visit to the Jungle Navigation Company Skipper Canteen during Girls Getaway Weekend and it was marvelous! My friends and I wanted to try a new restaurant experience for lunch and the Skipper Canteen did not disappoint.  Located in the Magic Kingdom Park in the Adventureland area across from the Swiss Family Treehouse, the Skipper Canteen is a table service restaurant serving a wide variety of dishes with Asian, African, and Latin influences. In addition to the amazing food and drinks, the Skipper Canteen staff continues the lighthearted, jovial, and pun-filled jokes of the World-Famous Jungle Cruise ride.

When walking to your table, the adventure guides are sure to point out such sights as the Great Wall of China! Filled with delightful details such as Tiffany-style parrot lamps, decorative animal chairs and carpets and even hidden Mickeys in the menu the ambiance is relaxing and fun.

With dishes like “Tastes Like Chicken Because It Is!”, Sankuru Sadie’s Seafood Stew, and Perkins Thai Noodles there is a flavor to delight every member of the family.  At table service meals, you may swap a dessert for an appetizer and my group did just that. We tried the Jungle Green salad and Lost and Found Soup selections. Both were full-bodied with flavor and my salad dressing added a warm kick to the starter.  A variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks also come with the Disney Dining Plan and we ordered special sangrias. These wonderful drink options are a fun, included perk of Disney Dining Plans.

The Skipper Canteen is a wonderful stop for lunch in the Magic Kingdom to take a break, relax, and recharge for more magic for all members of the family. For the smallest adventurers the menu goes beyond pasta and pizza, offering tiny taste buds mix and match choices including shrimp, steak, soup, and sides.  The kid’s menus have games and fun activities to keep little hands busy while waiting. The Disney Play app also has an Adventureland trivia segment that can be accessed while waiting for your table.

I found Skipper Canteen to be a hidden gem tucked away in the Magic Kingdom and I will definitely be stopping by for more fun and great food on my next visit.
